Malimbus Studio is the practice of Barcelona-based artist Gabriela Malimbus, whose sculptural textile works explore the boundaries between fiber art, installation, and object. Trained in Sculpture at Escola Massana Barcelona, with a background in sociology and communication, her work carries both material and conceptual depth. Each piece is constructed using techniques of knotting, braiding, and weaving as tools of material investigation — combined with structural frameworks in hardwoods, bamboo, pine, fir, and iron rods. This three-dimensional approach, with depths reaching up to 20 cm, elevates site-specific installations that elevate the vernacular forms of knots into sculptural territory. The studio takes its name from the weaver bird of sub-Saharan Africa, whose intricately constructed nests are a silent manifesto: structure, craft, and beauty are not separate things. Her work is held in international private collections, has been featured in Selvedge Magazine, and presented in Barcelona, Paris, and across Europe. She has lectured on the history of textile art and resistance at the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona.
