About The Artwork
Collecting up the reigns before a race I'm currently working on a series of larger scale jockeys and horses. These paintings are a bit more intimate getting closer to the jockey to reflect a moment. When I'm at the races I soak up the atmosphere. The hubbub, the excitement, jockeys in their bright silks, thoroughbreds presented in perfect condition - there's a sense of anticipation in the air. Underneath their skin is bone, sinew and muscle.

I predominately work in acrylic and love the versatility of this medium. I try to balance colour and form - contrasting line with brush work and flat areas of colour so that each work has a history of mark making. I continuously draw, making sketches from life and from source references. I endeavour to create work that is a response to a place or a moment - partly from memory, partly from the sketches that I make on location and partly from source references. Combining these together for the finished composition.
