About The Artwork

This abstract artwork combines the shapes, rhythms, and patterns of cellular shapes and mushroom caps abundantly proliferating around each other to produce a cellular study, a biome, the idea that everything is borne from the cell, the seed of an idea. Inspired by the scale of repetition and multiplicity of El Anatsui's found material weavings and Nick Cave's 'Until' installation, I created this piece using ink pens a variety of recycled and repurposed papers to create the individual elements I then collaged onto an acrylic background. Papers used include: -used and new coffee filters -washed tea bags -repurposed paint chip samples -brittle old book pages -decorative art papers -security envelopes -graph paper -kraft paper bag This piece is composed on a 20" x 30" piece of masonite panel and comes shipped, unframed. Signed and dated on front and back of the work.

Ali Herrmann is a mixed media painter, colorist and science lover, whose work explores cellular structures as an origin into her abstract artworks. Creating what she terms ‘micro-biome landscapes,’ Herrmann uses SEM images and organic shapes as inspiration to explore concepts of blood, bacteria, fungi, and unicellular structures within her boldly colorful, abstract artworks. Exploring themes of repetition, rhythmic orders, geometric shapes, and chaos-order theory, Ali brings attention to nature's details that are often overlooked.
