ABOUT THE ARTWORK

With my painting I wish to present images that are arresting, turbulent and expansive; with colours that inspire creativity and light after the sorrow we have all suffered during the pandemic. Angler Fish are bony fish named for their characteristic mode of predation in which a modified luminescent fin ray (the esca or illicium -- shown in yellow) acts as a lure for other fish. The luminescence comes from symbiotic bacteria that dwell in the sea.

Lives and works in Thornhill, Ontario, Canada – just a bit north of Toronto. After many years of writing fiction and sculpting, I decided to follow in my mother’s footsteps and paint. She made beautiful oil on canvas landscapes. I was inspired by the early images from the James Webb telescope. They absolutely blew me away. The universe is so expansive and turbulent it boggles comprehension! These are images that no human has ever seen. With my paintings, photographs and sculptures, I wish to present images that are arresting, turbulent and expansive; with colours that inspire visions of creativity and light.
