We exist in the stream of impermanence between lives, deaths, beginnings, ends, presence, emptiness, distance, connection, hope, and hopelessness. My motto “Swim to my dream, and freedom from my mind”, flows from the Buddhist teaching “In the present moment lies freedom”. A lexicon of personal, and cultural meaning populate these works. Water represents oneness, connection; insight of the Sūtra on Heart, and Eight Realizations of Great Beings symbolized by Chinese characters’ shaped corals. Jellyfish and pufferfish represent freedom and suffering. Techniques of pouring acrylic sheets to form swimming sea creatures, integrating: mountains, clouds, birds into seascapes, aquatic life into skyscapes, and the use of an intense candy-coated color palette, forms a mythical world; juxtaposing realism, and surrealism. This has the effect of offering us reprieve from reality, ultimately reminding us that there is always potential, hope, and connection in the now. These pieces invite us to embrace the vital ecosystems, to accept, let go, and join the unifying beauty of oneness.
