I made this work during the time when I was feeling unsure about the idea of "home," as I began to notice mild yet persistent anxieties started to abound surrounding our environments. Thus, throughout creating this painting, I began to question and explore my feeling state of being at home, what it means to be "at home." Ultimately, I concluded that being at home perhaps meant inclusive - especially during this current time - even the state of anxiety, uncertainty, and discomfort. In this piece, applied layers of paper became a lot thicker and lines became bolder as I desired the viewers to linger a little longer and stay pensive about what it means to be at home for them as well. In terms of process, layers of paper were first glued and peeled off layer by layer once dried.

Young makes abstract paintings with paper. At the core of her practice, she explores the concept of impermanence as it relates to life, and the beauty of such mercuriality and unpredictability embedded in the life form. Techniques and process are key to expressing her intention as she unearths the essence of the theme of ephemerality by peeling away colored paper that was first meticulously layered and copiously built up. She is inspired by this process of building and removing intricate layers in order to reveal what is underneath and between – birthing something entire new from the ashes of destruction. In her body of work, melding her past experiences and passion together, Young combines elements from art, design, and craft. Young received her BA in Philosophy from Occidental College, and post graduate studies in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design. Her paintings have been exhibited and placed by galleries and collectors throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
