Inspired by the stories of John Cheever and the fantasy world and colors of David Hockney. It's a dreamscape, a swimmer above the world, a world that is a bit like paradise, with animals in a peaceful jungle. I paint what I dream and for you, as observer, I hope you see your own fantasy world and ma...

Born in Berlin, Birgitt Busz studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Hanover, Germany. She lives and works in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In her work she refers to our collective memory and incorporates the philosophy of Nietzsche and Sloterdijk, the romance of Caspar David Friedrich, the colorful picturesque elements (?) of Hockney, the masterful narrative of Murakami and the tradition of cartoons. With a recognizable handwriting in multiple techniques and an extraordinary use of color, she processes all this in her own, very personal style. In her visual stories she explores the boundary between dream and reality and between romance and melancholy. It results in mysterious landscapes through which cartoonish and fantasy figures and animals walk. The images are sometimes surreal but at the same time recognizable and contemporary. Birgitt Busz is an observer with a fine sense of what is happening in the world. This results in appealing series such as Panic in Paradise, Urban Observations, Alle Lust will Ewigkeit and Demons are Forever. And sometimes her work seems predictive. For example, she painted the Covid-19 or corona images in 2016. Her observations, her own style and her special use of color are appreciated by collectors and also by her fellow artists. Her oeuvre includes drawings, paintings, animations, objects and installations and is included in national and international collections.
